Currently Derek is Chair of A2Dominion Housing Group, one of the largest registered providers with over 30,000 homes in management and a target programme of developing 1,500 new homes each year.

Derek was co-founder and Managing Director of HACAS Group PLC, a successful social housing sector consultancy that became a major subsidiary within Tribal Group in 2003. From 2003 to 2010 he was Executive Director of Tribal Treasury Services.

He was Project Manager of the Housing Guarantee Fund, an innovative sterling guarantee fund set up to provide loans to non-governmental organisations to build low-cost homes in Asia and South America, and has also provided housing strategy advice in Eastern Europe.

Responsible for the development and negotiations with syndicates of funders providing substantial facilities to RSL groups through specialist treasury vehicles which are part of the groups and provide a range of funding for different ventures. Derek was also responsible for the establishment of a number of commercial vehicles controlled by RSLs and local authorities to provide diversified residential schemes and commercial property and employment initiatives. Currently an executive or non-executive Director of eight such companies, controlling over £400m of assets.

He has produced a report on the effectiveness of the financial management of housing associations in the UK for the National Audit Office.

Derek has advised on over 20 PFI/PPP schemes as well as providing general advice to government departments and similar on the use of these financing initiatives.

Author of co-author of three books on the future financing of housing in the United Kingdom, author of a number of research reports for government departments, regulating authorities, trade bodies and universities. A well known speaker at the influential housing conferences in the United Kingdom and overseas as well as a regular contributor to trade magazines.

Additionally, Derek is a consultant to a number of major commercial property developers and financial institutions on company strategy, new products and partnership initiatives. He is also an adviser to a number of endowed charities on their investment strategies and works with a number of organisations, banks and equity providers looking at vehicles for direct investment into residential housing portfolios.
